Article thumbnails and category feeds in one news module

Joomla sites often need an article listing somewhere beyond the main blog page: a homepage news block, a section landing page, or a sidebar showing recent stories. Core Joomla already covers much of this through category blog menu items and modules such as Articles - Category, Articles - Latest, Articles - Featured and Articles - Most Read. A template override can then change the markup and visual arrangement.

According to the listing, Newsmax News goes beyond those basic displays by allowing a module to draw from the current category, selected categories, or individually selected articles. It also claims to create thumbnails automatically from images in articles, including images hosted elsewhere, fall back to a default image, and expose fields such as the title, date, author, rating and comment count. Those are the reasons to consider an extension rather than adapting Joomla's standard module output.

It is aimed at publishers, magazines and business sites that need several curated article blocks with a consistent presentation. A small site using a single category blog, or one happy with Joomla's standard latest-article module and a template override, is unlikely to need it.

The listing marks it as a free download under GPLv2 or later and shows compatibility with Joomla 5 and 6. Trey Braid has four other extensions listed, but this entry has no reviews. The page provides no documentation, and it does not explain the available layout controls, accessibility details, performance implications, external-image handling, update policy or support arrangements. Test those points on a staging site before deployment.
