Content Image Upload 2.0 targets Joomla 6 media workflows

Content Image Upload 2.0 is a Joomla 6 system plugin for handling article images without leaving the editor, combining drag-and-drop uploads with resizing, format conversion, metadata removal and optional watermarking.

The plugin adds an upload panel to the article editor’s Images and Links tab. Files can be selected with a button or dropped onto the panel, and the upload takes place without a page reload.

Uploaded files are stored in date-based directories such as images/2026/10/22 and receive unique names, preventing an existing file from being overwritten. Processing includes image reduction, conversion to WebP or AVIF, and automatic rotation based on a phone photo’s EXIF orientation data.

The plugin also removes metadata, including GPS information. A single image can be assigned to both the intro and full article text, while a switch separates the assignments when two images are required.

Watermarks and compatibility

Watermarking is optional and reversible: the original image is saved before the watermark is applied. When the watermark changes, the plugin updates JUImage thumbnails so templates using Wmarka can display the revised image.

Content Image Upload 2.0 requires Joomla 6, PHP 8.3 or later, and the GD extension. Updates can be installed from the Joomla administration panel. The interface and detailed documentation, including screenshots, are available in English, Russian and Kazakh.

The plugin is released under the GPL. It grew from Content Image Upload 1.6 by the Khabar agency and approaches used in WT Image Resize and Convert by WebTolk, with both authors credited by the project.

Source code is available on GitHub; the project announcement is published by Webmarka.
