Joomla log files, searchable from the administrator backend

Joomla sites generate logs for errors, events and other technical activity, but the core mainly handles the logging system itself: administrators can configure logging and its location, while the files are normally inspected through FTP, a hosting control panel or a server file manager. A template override is not relevant here because this is an administrator-side maintenance task. The core does not provide a general-purpose backend log browser with file search, live refresh, archive downloads and cleanup controls. According to the listing, Administration Logs goes beyond core by detecting log files and adding those operations to the Joomla administrator interface.

This is aimed at site owners, support staff and developers who regularly troubleshoot Joomla installations but do not have convenient server-level file access. It may also suit teams that want an administrator account to inspect logs without giving that account FTP or hosting-panel access. A small site with occasional maintenance access, or a team already using SSH, FTP or a server log-management system, may have little reason to install it.

The extension is listed as a free download under the admin reports section, with a GPLv2-or-later licence. Chat-Loupe is the developer, and the directory page currently shows no reviews, so there is little directory feedback about its track record. The listing claims Joomla 5 and Joomla 6 compatibility and mentions ACL and CSRF protection, but does not explain the required permission setup, supported log formats, handling of sensitive data, performance with large or fast-growing files, or whether deleted and cleared logs can be recovered. Those destructive actions and the maximum read-size setting are worth testing on a backup before production use.
