KCanonicalUrl adds sitewide canonical links to Joomla pages
KCanonicalUrl is a free Joomla plugin for declaring which URL search engines should treat as the canonical version of each frontend page.
Its job is to add a rel="canonical" link to frontend HTML and clean the URL used for that link.
This comes up because one Joomla page can be reachable through different URL forms, including tracking parameters, alternate hostnames, or HTTP and HTTPS. Joomla's core SEF and routing features make URLs more readable and help map requests to menu items and content, but they do not, according to this listing, automatically provide the sitewide canonical handling described here. A template override or custom system plugin could add a basic head tag, while an SEO extension can handle query-parameter filtering, host and scheme rules, existing component canonicals, and multilingual output in one place. KCanonicalUrl claims to go beyond core by covering those cases, including a configurable list of tracking parameters and self-referencing hreflang.
It is aimed at Joomla 5 or 6 sites where search visibility matters and URLs are shared with campaign parameters, served across hostname variants, or managed in multiple languages. A small site with one stable URL pattern, no multilingual content, and no concern about campaign parameters has little reason to add it.
The directory lists it as a free download under SEO & Metadata, from Luca, with a GPLv2-or-later licence. The listing shows five other extensions from the developer but no reviews. Before installing, check how its URL rules interact with caching, existing SEO plugins and component-generated canonicals, and confirm the desired behaviour for redirects versus tags. The listing states Joomla 5.x or 6.x and PHP 8.1+, but leaves configuration defaults, support arrangements and conflict-handling details to the documentation.
