YOOtheme Pro 5 drops Joomla 3 and 4 support

The new consent manager is built into the template and supports GDPR and CCPA workflows. Scripts can be assigned to functional, analytics, marketing and preferences categories. Video embeds, including YouTube and Vimeo, can now load only after a visitor clicks a placeholder, preventing external requests before consent.

New content and builder features

• A date filter can display past or future events using any custom date field, supporting event, match and announcement sites.
• Bidirectional relationships using Regular Labs Articles Field can connect content types such as events and organisers. The reverse relationship is retrieved automatically when dynamic content is displayed.
• A menu item linked to #language-switcher can be used as a language switcher.
• The new Menu element inserts any Joomla menu into a layout, although it outputs only one level.
• A File field can select files from the filesystem and expose their URL, name, size and extension in the builder.
• The Search Ordering element can sort results by relevance, date or title.

Access to the layout builder is also restricted: its edit button is shown only to users with the “Edit Templates” permission. YOOtheme says internal cache files have been removed, and image markup has been adjusted to follow SEO practices.

Breaking changes and upgrade checks

Images are now cached in media/yootheme/cache; version 5.0.3 adds a compatibility mode. The cache-clearing button has been removed, as has support for Joomla 3 and Joomla 4. Background YouTube and Vimeo videos are no longer supported, and theme-element configuration has moved from JSON to PHP.

Before upgrading, the site should be moved to Joomla 5 or later. The source also recommends updating commonly used YOOtheme Pro extensions from Flart and Zoolanders, disabling YOOtheme Pro dynamics for RadicalMart, and testing the upgrade on a staging copy first.
