Joomla 6.2 adds editor, mail and extension update tools

Joomla 6.2 brings practical improvements for site owners and developers, including a more integrated TinyMCE experience, generic XOAuth2 mail authentication and clearer security-update indicators for extensions.

The Joomla project has released Joomla 6.2, a minor version focused on usability, security-related tooling and code improvements. Administrators can download the Joomla 6.2.0 Full Package, while sites running Joomla 5.4 can upgrade rather than migrate.

  • TinyMCE now connects more closely with the Media Manager, adds a unified link-picker modal and provides a faster Read More insertion button. It also follows Joomla’s text-filter configuration by default.
  • Article images gain separate image and figure CSS class fields, while subcategory images can appear in category lists and blogs. Categories with future-published articles are also handled more reliably.
  • Administrators can hide forgotten-password and forgotten-username links in the Login Module, navigate deeper menu levels more reliably and use a redesigned Joomla Help page.
  • Extension developers can mark updates with a security severity from None to Critical. These updates are highlighted in the extension updater and dashboard.
  • Generic XOAuth2 support lets SMTP authentication use provider-issued tokens instead of storing an account password, which is relevant to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.

The release also reorganises the JavaScript and CSS asset pipeline with new builders, registries and watch/build commands. Developers should review the upgrade notes, installation guidance and technical requirements before updating.
