Joomla 6.2 RC targets extension testing before October release
The Joomla project has published the Joomla 6.2 Release Candidate, giving site builders and extension developers a final testing window before the planned stable release on 13th October 2026.
This build is intended for testing rather than production use. Developers can use it to check extension compatibility, while users can explore the features planned for Joomla 6.2 and report problems before general availability.
The candidate includes a language change from MySQL to MariaDB/MySQL, a unit-test update to PHPUnit12, and a SQL typo fix in com_contact. The project also points developers to its documentation covering potential backward compatibility issues in 6.2.
- The release candidate milestone, RC1, was published on 29 September 2026.
- Language files are now frozen, so changes will be limited to essential fixes such as critical bugs.
- The planned stable release is on or about 13th October 2026, although the schedule may change.
Extension developers are encouraged to test their software against the candidate and report issues through the Joomla issue tracker. Developers and users can also use nightly builds or launch a free Joomla 6 website at launch.joomla.org for testing.
