CaptchaFox adds paid bot checks to Joomla forms
Captcha - CaptchaFox gives Joomla sites another captcha service for blocking automated form submissions and registrations.
Its job is to add CaptchaFox verification to Joomla forms such as contact, registration, password-recovery and frontend article-submission forms.
This need arises when public forms attract spam, scripted registrations or other automated requests. Joomla already provides a captcha integration and a configurable default captcha, so extensions that use Joomla's standard captcha field can generally use the selected provider without rebuilding each form. The developer says this plugin plugs into that existing system and can therefore cover compatible third-party forms too. Its additional layer is the CaptchaFox service itself, including its claimed background bot checks, proof-of-work and server-side answer verification; those capabilities are not supplied by Joomla core.
It is aimed at public-facing Joomla sites that need registration, contact or submission forms protected and are willing to use an external paid service. A site with no public forms, no bot problem, or an existing captcha setup that is sufficient for its needs has little reason to add it.
- The directory lists it as a paid download, with a seven-day trial followed by a subscription; pricing and plan limits are not stated.
- The listing shows no reviews and gives no meaningful developer track record beyond the developer name,
ulysses. It claims GPL licensing and GitHub development, but does not provide further project history here. - Check the service's privacy terms, regional processing details, accessibility, support arrangements and behaviour when the external service is unavailable. The listing specifies Joomla 5.4 or later or Joomla 6, plus PHP requirements, but does not explain third-party extension coverage beyond forms using Joomla's captcha field.
