Email recovery on Joomla's administrator login
System - Administrator Recovery adds an email-based way for eligible Joomla users to recover administrator access without leaving the backend login area.
The extension handles password recovery from Joomla's administrator login page and, according to the listing, can also allow a user to change their username when that option is enabled.
This problem exists because losing an administrator password can block access to the backend, while recovery tools in Joomla core are primarily provided by the com_users user component. A site can expose core password-reset and username-reminder forms through its frontend, and a developer can alter their presentation with a template override. That is often sufficient, but it may be unsuitable when the affected user cannot or should not use the public site. An extension is the alternative when recovery must begin at the administrator login itself. This one goes beyond core's usual user forms by placing the process in the backend login flow and, according to the listing, adding optional username changes rather than only password recovery.
It is aimed at Joomla sites with several backend users, restricted public-facing sites, or teams that want a defined email route for administrator access problems. A small site with one administrator who can use Joomla's existing recovery process has little reason to install it.
