Hazelchat adds a hosted, source-linked AI chat agent

Its job is to load Hazelchat’s chat widget on a site’s public pages, using an installation code and public widget key supplied by the hosted service.

This need arises when a site has more questions than a normal contact form or article-based navigation can handle. Joomla core provides articles, the Contact component, custom fields, menus and Smart Search, but it does not provide a conversational AI agent that answers from approved pages, cites sources or hands visitors to an enquiry form. A template override can change how core output looks, and a developer can add a third-party script manually, but neither supplies the hosted AI service. According to the listing, this plugin adds that integration without administrator, feed, print-view or modal output, and can wait for a consent manager event before connecting.

It is aimed at organisations with a documentation-heavy or support-focused site, especially teams that want to select source material and review answers in Hazelchat before publishing. A brochure site with a few pages, or a team that only needs a contact form, has little reason to install it.

The Joomla plugin is a free GPLv2-or-later download, but the chat requires a Hazelchat account and hosted service, which is not GPL. The listing says the Free plan covers one website and 50 answers monthly; paid plans add capacity, enquiry emails and sites, but prices are not given here. The directory shows JP Peters as developer, no reviews, and no established track record. It lists Joomla 5 and 6 compatibility, but leaves questions about service uptime, retention and processing details beyond the linked privacy notice.
