Joomla launches user documentation portal for version 5+

Joomla has introduced guide.joomla.org, a new English-language documentation portal for Joomla 5+ that brings user, webmaster and administrator guidance into a resource focused on current releases.

The portal addresses a longstanding gap in Joomla documentation. The existing docs.joomla.org still contains information relevant to Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3, along with some material for Joomla 4, but it is not focused on the Joomla 5+ user experience.

Topics covered

The new guide is aimed at the people who manage content and websites as well as those responsible for administration. Its subjects include:

  • Creating and managing categories, articles and site pages
  • Working with modules and display styles
  • Uploading and managing images
  • Components, plugins, search and tags
  • Processes, multilingual sites, email templates and scheduled tasks
  • Templates and Schema.org structured data

The material is written in English. Readers who need another language can use browser translation tools. The community site jdocmanual.org also provides AI translations into nine languages, including Russian.

Community contributions

The documentation project is seeking additional contributions. Short notes, articles and screenshots based on practical Joomla experience can be submitted to help expand the guide. The project notes that documentation work, like Joomla code, depends on contributions from people across the community.

The new portal is intended for current Joomla 5+ documentation, while docs.joomla.org remains the reference point for much of the older material.
