Accent Letters adds Unicode search and accent removal to Joomla editors
Accent Letters is a free Joomla editor plugin for finding accented characters and converting selected text to unaccented alternatives.
The extension adds two editor buttons: one opens a searchable picker for accented characters, and the other rewrites selected text without accents.
This is a small but recurring content-authoring problem. Joomla sites publish names, quotations and local-language content, while keyboard layouts, operating systems and remote working setups do not always make less common characters easy to enter. Joomla core can store Unicode text, and editors such as TinyMCE may provide a special-character tool depending on their configuration. Users can also paste characters from another application or type them with their operating system. A template override is not the usual answer because this happens in the administrator editor, not in the site's presentation layer.
According to the listing, Accent Letters goes beyond those basic options with search by character, Unicode name, language or code point, filters for 55 languages, and a selected-text conversion tool. It also claims to handle characters that ordinary Unicode decomposition does not, while preserving HTML tags and attributes. Those are claims from the developer; we have not tested them.
It is aimed at multilingual editorial teams, sites that regularly publish foreign names or quotations, and administrators who need repeatable transliteration before exporting or searching content. A mostly English-language site whose authors can type or paste the occasional special character has little reason to install it.
