Visitor-controlled text and contrast options in Joomla 6
PC-DIDI Accessibility Toolbar adds a floating control panel so visitors can change text presentation, contrast and selected reading options on a Joomla site.
Accessibility issues arise because a site's default typography, contrast, motion and navigation do not suit every visitor. Joomla core supplies the underlying content, template markup and accessibility features provided by a chosen template, but it does not provide a general visitor-facing toolbar for changing these settings at runtime. A template override, CSS and JavaScript can implement tailored controls, while an extension avoids building those controls from scratch. According to the listing, PC-DIDI goes beyond core by offering text scaling, contrast, link underlining, reduced animation, text spacing, heading highlighting, alignment, a skip-to-content control and selected-text speech, with preferences stored in the browser.
This is aimed at site owners or teams that want optional, visitor-controlled adjustments across a Joomla 6 site without designing their own toolbar. It may be relevant to public-facing sites serving people with different reading or visual preferences. A site with an already accessible template, a tightly controlled design system, or no requirement for user-adjustable presentation has little reason to add it. The developer explicitly says the toolbar does not make a site WCAG-conformant; it is not a substitute for an accessibility audit.
Before installing, note that the directory lists it as a free download from PC-DIDI in the accessibility section. The listing shows two other extensions from the developer, but no review history for this extension, so that is limited evidence of track record. It does not explain support arrangements, browser coverage, the speech feature's behaviour beyond an available German device voice, or how its custom CSS interacts with a site's template. Check those points, plus Joomla 6 compatibility in your own environment, before deployment.
