OAuth and OpenID Connect sign-in for Joomla 6

Identity Manager lets Joomla users sign in with GitHub, Google, another OAuth or OpenID Connect provider, or a second Joomla site.

Joomla already provides local accounts, registration controls and the standard Login module, while authentication plugins can connect some sites to existing directories or services. It does not provide a general-purpose OAuth or OpenID Connect client and provider setup for social sign-in or Joomla-to-Joomla login. A template override can change the login form, but it cannot supply the protocol, callbacks and account-linking logic. That is the gap this extension addresses: according to the listing, it handles external identities, local account linking and a Joomla site acting as an identity provider.

The likely audience is a group running several Joomla sites, or a site team that wants GitHub, Google or another compatible identity service at its login screen. It may also suit organisations that need users to retain local accounts while adding an external sign-in. A single Joomla site with only username-and-password accounts, no external identity provider and no cross-site login requirement has little reason to install it.

  • The listing calls it a free download from Yann Gomiero in the site access section. It requires Joomla 6, PHP 8.3 or later, a database, HTTPS, cURL and OpenSSL.
  • There are no reviews, and the directory shows one other extension from the developer; that is limited evidence of track record.
  • GitHub and Joomla-to-Joomla flows are reported as tested, but Google has not been tested with a live application. Other providers are not certified, and self-hosted WordPress is untested.
  • Check provider credentials, callback setup, migration and recovery procedures, and whether the required Joomla and PHP versions fit the site before using it in production.
