AI-generated alt text for Joomla article images

Its job is to generate alternative text for article images and put that text into Joomla's article data.

Images need alt text because screen readers otherwise have little or no useful information about meaningful non-text content. Joomla core already provides an Images and Links tab where editors can enter alternative text for article intro and full-text images, but it does not generate descriptions or provide a central queue for missing values. A template override can change how an existing alt attribute is rendered, yet it cannot reliably write accurate, image-specific descriptions back into articles. Teams therefore handle this manually, or use an extension when the volume makes manual editing impractical. According to the listing, DockAccess goes beyond core with a searchable image list, filtering, bulk generation, language-aware text, and synchronisation with dockaccess.org.

This is aimed at sites with a substantial article archive, accessibility work to complete, and editors who want machine-generated first drafts rather than individually describing every image. Multilingual sites may also find the language handling relevant. A small site with few images, or a team that already writes and reviews alt text manually, has little reason to install it.

The download is free and GPL-licensed, but an active dockaccess.org subscription is required; the listing does not give plan prices. Images sent for generation go to dockaccess.org and are described there with Google Gemini, so check the provider's retention, processing, and data-use terms. The listing specifies Joomla 5.4 or later, Joomla 6, and PHP 8.1 or later. It shows one other extension from Jacek Labudda, no reviews, and no documentation. Accuracy, review workflow, subscription limits, and support arrangements remain worth checking before adoption.
