Featured article slideshows beyond Joomla’s core module

This need arises when a site wants to give several important articles a prominent, rotating position rather than showing them as a conventional list or blog layout. Joomla core already provides the Articles - Featured module for publishing articles marked as featured, while Articles - Category can list content from chosen categories. Core layouts can be changed through template overrides and styling, but turning those results into a responsive carousel with controls and timed transitions generally requires custom JavaScript or an extension.

According to the listing, NEWSMAX-DX-Featured-News-Slideshow goes beyond those core displays by presenting selected category content as a slideshow, with options claimed for navigation arrows, pagination, autoplay, swipe controls, article ribbons and visual settings. Those are developer claims; the software has not been tested here.

It is aimed at news publishers, magazines, blogs and other editorial sites that need a prominent feature area for several articles at once. A small brochure site with a handful of pages, or a site happy with Joomla’s featured-article list or blog layout, has little reason to install it.

The directory marks it as a paid download under the GPLv2 or later licence, but gives no price. Trey Braid has 13 other extensions listed, while this entry has no reviews, so the directory provides limited evidence about the developer’s track record. The listing identifies Joomla 5 and 6 compatibility, but documentation is marked unavailable. Before installing, check the purchase terms, update and support arrangements, accessibility of the slideshow, and whether its category filtering, overrides and responsive behaviour match the site’s template.
