Switch Joomla admin editors without opening Global Configuration
FG Editor Switcher puts a control on Joomla’s administrator edit screens so users can change the editor for the fields they are working on.
The job is to let an administrator change the active Joomla editor from an edit screen instead of changing the site-wide setting first.
This comes up when a team needs visual editing for some content, source-code editing for other content, or a third-party editor such as JCE for particular tasks. Joomla core already provides editors such as TinyMCE and CodeMirror as editor plugins, and the default editor is configured through Global Configuration. That setting is not normally a per-screen dropdown beside the article toolbar. A template override is therefore not the usual answer, especially for administrator forms and fields added dynamically. The developer says FG Editor Switcher goes beyond core by adding that selector, carrying unsaved content between editors, supporting multiple fields and remembering the choice in a cookie.
- For: agencies, editorial teams and administrators who regularly move between visual, code and third-party editors while managing Joomla content.
- Not for: sites with one editor, one editing workflow or no need to expose editor choices to content staff.
The listing marks it as a free download and says it is compatible with Joomla 4, 5 and 6. Before installing, note that the directory shows two other extensions from ferino, but FG Editor Switcher has no reviews. Documentation is listed as unavailable, and the listing does not explain the exact editor-switching limits, permissions, upgrade behaviour, browser support or how every third-party editor handles unsaved content.
